"HIDDEN LIFE"

a poetic journey from trauma to healing - half of the forest is burnt, while the other half is blooming

"HIDDEN LIFE" is my second diploma film, created together with Sigrit Villido and Silver Strazdins.

It is a stop-motion puppet film, where we handled every stage ourselves: writing the script, building the set, making puppets, setting the lighting, animating, and post-processing the film. Our set is made from materials gathered from forests in northern Estonia. We chose natural materials firstly to keep the film’s ecological footprint small, and secondly as a tribute to Estonian animation master Heino Pars. It traveled to the following festivals:

  • Animist Tallinn / Estonian New Animation / Estonia, Tallinn / 17–20 August / 2022
  • Linoleum / Contemporary Estonian Animation / Ukraine, online / 7–11 September / 2022
  • Fredrikstad Animation Festival / Nordic-Baltic Student Film Competition / Fredrikstad, Norway / 20–23 October / 2022
